When to Use
During home assessments when water quality issues are identified, or when customers ask about hard water, taste, or sediment problems.
Product Categories
Water Softeners
- What they solve: Hard water — mineral buildup (calcium, magnesium) that damages fixtures, appliances, and pipes.
- Signs customer needs one: White scale on fixtures, soap doesn't lather well, dry skin/hair, water heater efficiency declining.
- How to present: "Hard water is slowly damaging your plumbing and appliances. A water softener pays for itself by extending the life of your water heater, fixtures, and pipes."
- Sizing: Based on household size and water hardness level (test with a water hardness test kit on-site).
Water Filtration Systems
- Whole-house filtration: Removes sediment, chlorine, and contaminants from all water entering the home.
- Point-of-use (under-sink): Dedicated drinking water filtration at specific faucets.
- Reverse osmosis (RO): Premium drinking water filtration — removes up to 99% of contaminants.
- When to recommend: Customer complains about taste, smell, or visible particles. Municipal water with chlorine. Well water with iron, sulfur, or bacteria concerns.
UV Disinfection
- For well water customers concerned about bacteria and microorganisms.
- Installed after the main filter, before distribution to the home.
- Chemical-free solution — appeals to health-conscious customers.
Selling Water Treatment
Important Notes
- Well water customers need a full water test (not just hardness) before recommending solutions. Send samples to a lab if needed.
- Water softeners require a drain connection — verify during the assessment.
- Filter replacement schedules vary by product — include this in the customer education at install.
- Dayton-area water is moderately hard (10-15 grains) — most homes benefit from softening.
