Business Licensing Oversight

Purpose

Defines how Spartan manages business licensing requirements — at the company level and for individual employees — ensuring the company is always legally authorized to operate in Ohio. ## Who This Applies To

Josh (owner) and the Production Concierge (who tracks licensing/permit status with jurisdictions). ## Required Licenses — Company Level

| License | Jurisdiction | Renewal | Owner |

|---|---|---|---|

| Ohio Contractor Registration | State of Ohio | Annual | Josh |

| Dayton/Montgomery County Business License | Local | Annual | Josh |

| EPA Section 608 (if applicable) | Federal | None once certified | Relevant techs |

| Backflow Prevention Certification | State/Local | Per certification | Certified techs |

## Required Licenses — Individual Technicians

From Slack: Spartan cannot install a gas water heater unless the technician is licensed and pulls their own permit. This is a hard compliance line. - Licensed plumbers must be on record for permit-pulling jobs

- Backflow license is required to work on specific sprinkler system components — Spartan must either employ a licensed person or refer the work

- HVAC mechanical license cannot substitute for plumbing license on plumbing work

## License Tracking

- Josh maintains a master list of all company and individual licenses with expiration dates. - the Operations Manager receives calendar alerts 90 days before any license expires. - Renewals initiated 60 days before expiration. ## Operating in New Counties

When expanding to new service areas:

1. Verify permit requirements and business registration in the new county. 2. Confirm which licenses are recognized across county lines in Ohio. 3. the Production Concierge is the permit point of contact — all permit questions route through the Production Concierge. ## Important Notes

- Never dispatch a tech to pull a permit for a job type they are not licensed for. - If a tech discovers mid-job that a license is required that was not anticipated (e. g. , backflow license needed for sprinkler work), stop the relevant portion of the work, inform the customer, and consult Josh. - Unlicensed work creates liability, voids warranties, and can result in permit failures. ## Related SOPs
