Purpose
Diagnostic procedures for faucet and fixture issues.
When to Use
- Dripping faucet, leaking fixture, low flow, handle problems, spray issues
Diagnostics
Dripping/Leaking Faucet
Identify type: single-handle (cartridge), two-handle (seats/springs), ball-type
Single-handle: cartridge is usually the issue — check manufacturer for correct part
Two-handle: check seats, springs, O-rings — replace as a set
Ball-type: replace ball, springs, seats, O-rings as a kit
Check supply lines for leaks at connectionsLow Water Flow
Remove and inspect aerator — mineral buildup is most common cause
Clean or replace aerator
Check supply valves under sink — partially closed restricts flow
If low flow throughout home, see Water Pressure Issues DiagnosticsHandle Problems
Loose: tighten set screw or handle nut
Stiff: cartridge worn or mineral-bound — replace
Leaking around base: O-ring failure — replace O-ringsFixture Leaks
Check all connection points: supply lines, drain, overflow, fixture body
Tub/shower valves behind wall: check for access panel
Shower head: check washer and thread tapeImportant Notes
- Shut off water before disassembling any faucet
- Photo faucet model/brand before disassembly for parts ID
- For widespread (3-piece) faucets, check all three connections
- Present repair vs. replacement for old faucets
