Flat Rate Pricing System Overview
Purpose
Explains Spartan Plumbing's flat rate pricing philosophy, how it works, and why it benefits both customers and the company.
When to Use
As a reference for all sales reps, technicians, and office staff who need to understand or explain Spartan's pricing approach.
How Flat Rate Pricing Works
Flat rate pricing means the customer pays a fixed price for a defined scope of work — regardless of how long the job takes. The price is the same whether the job takes 30 minutes or 3 hours.
Key Principles
Why Flat Rate vs. Time & Material
- Customer benefit: No anxiety about the clock running. They know the price upfront.
- Tech benefit: You're rewarded for efficiency. Faster work = same pay, more jobs per day.
- Company benefit: Predictable revenue, consistent margins, and a professional customer experience.
Common Customer Questions
- "Why is the price so high?" → "Our price includes everything — the parts, the labor, our warranty, and cleanup. There are no hidden charges or add-ons."
- "My friend/handyman could do it cheaper." → "Possibly, but our price includes a licensed plumber, a warranty on the work, and the peace of mind that it's done right and up to code."
- "Other companies charge by the hour." → "We prefer flat rate because we think you deserve to know the cost before we start. With hourly pricing, the longer the job takes, the more you pay."
Pricing Book Maintenance
- The flat rate book is maintained in ServiceTitan by the office/management team.
- Prices are reviewed and updated quarterly (or when material costs change significantly).
- Techs and sales reps are notified via Slack when pricing updates are published.
- If you notice a price that seems incorrect, report it — don't override it on your own.
Important Notes
- Never apologize for flat rate pricing. It's a feature, not a bug.
- Never discount without manager approval.
- The flat rate book covers the vast majority of jobs. For custom work, get a manager involved.
- Customers who understand flat rate pricing are more likely to trust the process and buy.
