Purpose
Ensure every Spartan Plumbing vehicle is safe and road-ready before each shift. Daily inspection is required for every technician operating a company vehicle.
When to Use
- Every morning before your first drive of the day
- After any vehicle incident, even minor
- When picking up a different or shared vehicle
Daily Inspection Checklist
Exterior Walk-Around
Tires — check for proper inflation, tread wear, damage, and lug nuts tight
Lights — headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals all working
Mirrors — side mirrors and rearview intact and properly adjusted
Body — check for new dents, scratches, or damage since last shift (document any found)
Windshield — no new cracks or chips that obstruct visibility
License plate — visible and current registration stickerUnder the Hood
Oil level — check dipstick, top off if needed
Coolant level — check reservoir
Windshield washer fluid — fill if low
Belts and hoses — visual check for cracks or wearInterior
Horn — working
Seatbelt — functioning and not frayed
Dash warning lights — note any warning lights and report
Wipers — working, blades in good condition
Defroster — working (critical in Ohio winters)
Phone charger — working and accessibleSafety Equipment
Fire extinguisher — present, charged, and accessible
First aid kit — stocked
PPE — safety glasses, gloves, knee pads present
Cones or triangles — for roadside emergencies
Emergency supplies — flashlight, blanket, water (seasonal)GeoTab
Confirm GeoTab unit is functioning (check dashboard indicator)
GeoTab tracks location, speed, idle time, and harsh driving events
Do not tamper with or disconnect the GeoTab unitReporting Issues
Minor issues (low fluid, burned-out bulb): report via Slack and continue your shift
Safety issues (bad brakes, tire damage, warning lights): do NOT drive — report immediately to the office
All new body damage must be reported the day it is discovered with photos
Vehicle maintenance needs go through the office — do not take the truck to a shop on your ownImportant Notes
- This inspection takes 5-10 minutes and prevents breakdowns and safety incidents
- Company vehicles are a reflection of Spartan Plumbing — keep them clean inside and out
- Daily Uniform Fit and Vehicle Check includes both your appearance and your truck readiness
- Mileage and fuel should be logged per company fleet policy
- Enterprise gas cards are used for fueling — PIN is the last four digits of your phone number
