Vehicle & Fleet Policy
Policy Statement
Spartan Plumbing vehicles are company assets provided for business use. Employees are responsible for their care, safe operation, and compliance with all traffic laws.
Who This Applies To
All employees assigned a company vehicle or who operate one during the course of their work.
Requirements
- Valid Ohio driver's license is required at all times — suspended or revoked license must be reported immediately
- Vehicles are for business use only — no personal errands during work hours unless pre-approved
- Authorized drivers only — no family members, friends, or unauthorized persons may drive Spartan vehicles
- GeoTab must remain connected and functional — tampering is a terminable offense
Vehicle Care
- Daily vehicle inspection is required before first drive (see Daily Vehicle Inspection Checklist)
- Keep the vehicle clean inside and out — wash exterior at least weekly
- Report all maintenance needs through the office — do not take the vehicle to a shop independently
- Maintain an organized truck with tools and materials properly stored and secured
Fueling
- Enterprise gas cards are provided for all fueling — PIN is the last four digits of your phone number
- Fuel when tank reaches one-quarter — do not wait until empty
- Premium fuel is not authorized unless specified for your vehicle
Vehicle Dos and Don'ts
- DO: Keep the vehicle locked when not in use, park in well-lit areas, maintain a professional appearance
- DO: Log mileage for record-keeping and tax documentation
- DON'T: Smoke in company vehicles, allow unauthorized passengers, exceed posted speed limits
- DON'T: Use the vehicle for personal transportation without authorization, leave the vehicle running unattended
Parking
- Do not block customer driveways, fire hydrants, or neighbor access
- Do not park on lawns unless the customer gives explicit permission
- When parking at the shop, follow designated parking assignments
Violations
- Traffic citations received while operating a company vehicle are the employee's personal responsibility
- At-fault accidents may result in disciplinary action per the progressive discipline policy
- Unauthorized use, DUI, or reckless driving in a company vehicle is grounds for immediate termination
