Purpose
Establish safety procedures for Spartan Plumbing technicians who work alone on job sites, ensuring someone always knows where they are and can respond if something goes wrong.
When to Use
- Any service call where you are the only Spartan employee on-site
- Working in remote locations, vacant properties, or after-hours calls
- Working in crawlspaces, attics, or other confined spaces alone
- Any situation where you feel your safety could be compromised
Procedure
Check-In Protocol
Before entering a job site, post your arrival in the appropriate Slack job channel
Include your ETA, arrival confirmation, and the customer's address
For after-hours or isolated calls, text your supervisor directly with the address
If a job is expected to take more than 2 hours, check in at the midpoint via SlackWhile on Site
Keep your phone charged and accessible at all times
Park your truck for a quick departure — nose out when possible
Trust your instincts — if something feels wrong about a property or situation, leave
Before entering a crawlspace or attic, tell someone (Slack, text, or call) that you are going in and your expected time out
Lock your truck when away from it at a job siteEmergencies When Working Alone
If injured and able, call 911 first, then your supervisor
If you cannot call, use your phone's emergency SOS feature
If dispatch cannot reach you and you have not checked in, they will attempt to contact you and escalate if no response
Carry a basic first aid kit in case you need to self-treat while waiting for helpAfter-Hours and On-Call Safety
After-hours calls are dispatched with address and customer information
Assess the situation before exiting your truck — scan the area
If the neighborhood or property feels unsafe, call the customer from your truck and assess before entering
Never enter a vacant or dark property without a working flashlight and your phone ready

- Dispatch will know your location from Slack channel posts and ServiceTitan job assignments — keep them updated
- If you miss a check-in window, expect a call from dispatch — answer it
- GeoTab on your truck provides location data, but verbal check-ins are your responsibility
- You are never required to enter a situation that feels unsafe — call your supervisor
