Purpose
Procedures for whole-house repiping projects by install crews.
When to Use
- Scheduled repipe (galvanized to PEX, polybutylene replacement, copper upgrade)
Procedure
Review Sales to Install form — scope, materials, access points, timeline
Protect entire home: drop cloths everywhere, furniture covers as needed
Shut off main water
Mark cut locations and plan route through walls/ceilings to minimize damage
Remove old piping section by section
Install new PEX lines (or copper per scope): properly supported, correct fittings
PEX support: hangers every 32 inches horizontal, 10 feet vertical
Leave expansion loops for thermal movement
Pressure test before connecting fixtures: 60 PSI for 30 minutes minimum
Connect all fixtures — verify hot/cold are correct at each
Final pressure test with fixtures connected
Flush entire system to clear debris
Patch wall/ceiling openings or coordinate drywall contractor per estimate
Final walkthrough with customer
Document with extensive photosPEX Standards
Use correct PEX type per Spartan standards (A, B, or F)
Crimp or expansion fittings per system — do not mix
Protect from UV — no exposed runs near windows

- Repiping is typically multi-day — communicate timeline clearly to customer
- Minimize wall penetrations — plan your routes before cutting
- PEX advantages: no corrosion, flexibility, fewer fittings, faster install
- Customer communication throughout is critical — update daily on progress
- Coordinate with drywall/paint contractor if included in scope
