Ohio Plumbing License Requirements by Role
Purpose
Outline the plumbing license requirements in Ohio for each role at Spartan Plumbing, ensuring all employees understand what credentials are required for their position.
Who This Applies To
All field employees — service technicians, install technicians, apprentices, and supervisors.
Ohio Plumbing License Structure
Apprentice Plumber
- Must be registered with the Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board (OCILB)
- Works under the supervision of a licensed journeyman or master plumber
- Must work a minimum number of supervised hours before testing for journeyman
- Spartan Plumbing will assist with apprentice registration
Journeyman Plumber
- Must pass the Ohio Journeyman Plumber exam through OCILB
- Requires documented experience hours under a licensed plumber
- Can perform plumbing work independently but under a master plumber's license
- Must maintain license through continuing education
Master Plumber
- Highest plumbing credential in Ohio
- Required for the company to pull permits and operate legally
- Must pass the Ohio Master Plumber exam
- Responsible for overseeing all work performed under their license
Spartan Plumbing Requirements by Role

License Maintenance

- Operating without proper licensure puts you and the company at legal risk
- If your license lapses, you must stop performing unsupervised work until it is renewed
