Weeks 4-6: Assisted Installation Work
Overview
During Weeks 4–6, the new install tech takes an active role in performing installation work under close supervision of the lead tech. The lead tech is present on every job. The new tech does the work; the lead tech coaches, verifies quality, and intervenes as needed.
Who Supervises
Lead install technician is present on every job. Operations Manager conducts minimum 1 job-site visit during this phase.
Tech Responsibilities (Weeks 4-6)
- Leads staging and pre-job setup
- Performs primary installation tasks under lead tech direction
- Maintains job site cleanliness and organization throughout
- Documents progress photos in ServiceTitan during the job
- Communicates with homeowner at start and end of job (lead tech monitors)
- Performs CO test after water heater installs and documents result
Lead Tech Responsibilities
- Present throughout the job
- Verifies quality at key checkpoints (connections, strapping, grade)
- Signs off on work before walls are closed or job is closed in ServiceTitan
- Does NOT perform work except to demonstrate technique or correct errors
Quality Checkpoints (Lead Tech Signs Off)
For each job, lead tech verifies before job close:
- [ ] All connections leak-free (pressure or visual test as appropriate)
- [ ] All pipe properly strapped and supported (correct spacing)
- [ ] Correct pitch on drain lines (1/4" per foot)
- [ ] Before and after photos uploaded to ServiceTitan
- [ ] Job notes written with materials used and work performed
- [ ] CO test completed and documented (water heater jobs)
- [ ] Permit pulled if required; inspection scheduled if needed
End-of-Phase Assessment (End of Week 6)
Production Concierge reviews:
- Lead tech's quality sign-off record — any repeated issues?
- Photo compliance in ServiceTitan
- Customer feedback
- Is the tech ready to lead portions of jobs as a Lead Helper?
