Weeks 2-4: Install Crew Ride-Along Phase
Overview
During Weeks 2–4, the new install tech rides with the lead install technician on full installation jobs. The goal is to absorb Spartan's quality standards, permit procedures, job communication process, and multi-step install workflow before performing any independent work.
Who Supervises
Designated lead install technician, assigned by Operations Manager.
Ride-Along Objectives
By end of Week 4, the new tech must be able to:
Day-to-Day Structure
- New tech rides on all jobs with the lead tech
- First week: observe only — hand tools, assist with material staging when directed
- Second and third weeks: actively assist with installation tasks under direct supervision
- Lead tech debriefs the new hire after each job: quality, process, customer interaction
Focus Areas by Job Type
Water Heater Replacements
- Pre-job material check and code compliance review
- Removal and disposal process
- Connection types, expansion tanks, and code requirements
- CO test upon completion
Repiping
- Material selection (copper vs PEX — see Spartan standards)
- Planning the repipe route, access points, and strapping schedule
- Drywall access and homeowner communication
- Pressure test before close
Sewer Line Work
- Locating the line and assessment
- Permit requirements for sewer work
- Backfill standards and restoration expectations
Milestone Check (End of Week 4)
Production Concierge meets with lead tech and new hire:
- Ready to begin assisted installs?
- Any quality, safety, or attitude concerns?
- Specific areas for additional focus?
