Tool & Equipment Issue Process

Purpose

Define the process for issuing tools, equipment, and vehicle assignments to new Spartan Plumbing employees.

When to Use

  • First week of employment for all field employees
  • When a technician needs replacement tools or additional equipment
  • When a vehicle assignment changes

Tool Issue Process

Day 1 — Basic Issue

  • Report to the shop as directed by your supervisor
  • You will receive your initial tool kit based on your role (service tech, install tech, apprentice)
  • A Must Have Tool List defines the standard loadout for your position
  • Sign the tool acknowledgment form — you are responsible for company-issued tools
  • Organize your tools in your assigned truck following the standard truck layout
  • Company-Provided vs. Personal Tools

    • Spartan provides standard tools required for the job at no cost
    • Specialty tools and shared equipment (camera, jetter, press tool) are checked out from the shop
    • Personal tools may be used but must meet safety standards — Spartan is not responsible for damage to personal tools
    • If a company tool breaks or wears out, request a replacement through the office

    Vehicle Assignment

  • New field employees are assigned a vehicle during their first week
  • Complete a Daily Vehicle Inspection with your supervisor on Day 1
  • Familiarize yourself with the truck layout, shelving, and inventory
  • Your truck is stocked with standard parts and materials — if anything is missing, report it
  • The Enterprise gas card is already in the vehicle — your PIN is the last four digits of your phone number
  • GeoTab is pre-installed — do not tamper with it
  • Equipment Return

    • If you leave Spartan Plumbing, all company-issued tools, equipment, uniforms, and the vehicle must be returned
    • Missing tools will be deducted from final pay per the tool acknowledgment form
    • Return everything clean and in working condition

    Important Notes

    • Take care of your tools — they are your livelihood. A well-maintained toolkit makes you more efficient
    • If a specialty tool (camera, jetter, press) is not available when you need it, coordinate with dispatch — do not take another tech's equipment without asking
    • Report broken, lost, or stolen tools to the office immediately
    • Restocking truck inventory is handled through Tradeshift orders coordinated with the office
