Drug & Alcohol Policy

Policy Statement

Spartan Plumbing maintains a drug-free and alcohol-free workplace. The use, possession, sale, or impairment from drugs or alcohol while on company time or property is strictly prohibited.

Who This Applies To

All Spartan Plumbing employees, contractors, and anyone operating on behalf of the company.

Prohibited Conduct

  • Using, possessing, selling, or being under the influence of illegal drugs while on duty or on company property
  • Using or being under the influence of alcohol during work hours or while operating a company vehicle
  • Reporting to work impaired by any substance, including prescription medications that affect your ability to work safely
  • Using marijuana on the job, regardless of Ohio's legalization status — our drug-free workplace policy applies

Drug Testing

  • Pre-employment drug screening is required for all new hires
  • Random drug testing may be conducted
  • Post-accident drug testing is required after any workplace injury or vehicle accident
  • Reasonable suspicion testing may be conducted if a supervisor observes signs of impairment

Prescription Medications

  • If you take prescription medication that may affect your ability to work safely (drowsiness, dizziness, impaired judgment), you must disclose this to your supervisor
  • You are not required to disclose the specific medication — only that it may affect your work capacity
  • Your supervisor will determine if modified duties are appropriate

Violations

  • Positive drug test: immediate suspension pending investigation, likely termination
  • Alcohol use during work hours: immediate suspension pending investigation, likely termination
  • Refusal to submit to a drug test: treated as a positive result

Employee Assistance

  • If you are struggling with substance use, Spartan Plumbing encourages you to seek help
  • Contact your supervisor or HR for information about available resources
  • Voluntarily seeking help before a policy violation occurs will be handled confidentially
